Useful hints and tips for your house move
In order to ensure that your removal is smooth-running and easy, here are some useful hints and tips worth remembering when you’re making preparations:
Access
It’s vital that we have clear access to doorways at all properties - and please advise your neighbours in advance that a removal vehicle will be parked outside your property. If parking permits are required, we ask you to organise them and provide us with the permits at the time of removal.
Attics and lofts
By law, our moving team are not allowed to enter an attic or loft unless it is properly illuminated and floored. There also needs to be a fixed ladder with a safe point of entry/exit. If you need your loft cleared, please discuss this with us beforehand - and if agreed, we will confirm in writing in our Quote for your approval.
If we are not clearing your attic or loft, its contents should be sorted and placed in a convenient area prior to the arrival of our moving team.
China and glass
These items can be left in cupboards or on shelves ready for our moving team to pack. Please check that all other cupboards have been emptied.
Items we cannot remove
We are not permitted to move any flammable substances, old tins of paint, creosote, paraffin, matches, gas bottles or similar items (if we were to do so, these would invalidate our insurance cover).
Cookers, washing machines, fridges and freezers
These should be emptied, drained and dried prior to removal. Please ensure that they are also disconnected, since our moving teams are not permitted to interfere with or disconnect any mains supplies.
